The Summit on the Park aquatic staff strive to foster a lifelong love for swimming, health and wellness, and aquatic safety. All swim lessons are taught by highly trained swim instructors and supervised by award winning lifeguards. Classes are offered at many levels including beginners, stroke refinement, competitive training, and conditioning. All aquatic classes take place at Summit on the Park indoor aquatic center

Summit Swim School Lesson Options
Parent/Child Lessons: classes for children 6 months to 4 years that include both the parent/guardian and the child actively participating in the class together.
Session Based Group Lessons: group lessons that last 6-10 classes per session. Participants are broken up in to similar skill levels.
- Preschool: ages 3 to 5 years
- Youth: ages 5 to 12 years
- Teen/Adult: ages 13+ years
Private Lessons: participants receive one-on-one instruction for 5 to 10 classes per session.

Parent Child: Group Swim Lessons
Level 1: Ages 6 month to 2 years
This class is meant for infants and toddlers who are being introduced to the water. Skills in this class are intended to teach children how to have fun and to be comfortable in the water. This level will not teach a child to be an expert swimmer. One parent or guardian is expected to be with their child in the water at all times.
Level 2: Ages 1.5 Years to 3 years
This class is meant for toddlers who have some water experience. This class focuses on getting children more comfortable in the water and start learning some basic swimming skills. One parent or guardian is expected to be with their child in the water at all times.
Level 3: Ages 2 to 4 years
This class is meant for toddlers and preschool age children who have a good amount of water experience but still benefit from a parent being in the water assisting them. This class focuses on getting children comfortable and independent in the water. One parent or guardian is expected to be with their child in the water at all times, though some class instruction may have the child work individually work with the instructor.
Preschool: Group Swim Lessons
Ages: 3 years - 5 years
All participants are tested and placed in to classes based on the their skill level.
Instructors will utilize a variety of teaching techniques to ensure progression through the program. Participants will receive weekly activity sheets to reinforce the lessons taught during class.
Level 1
This class is meant for preschool age children who are new to the water. The main goal is to get the child comfortable in the water without a parent. Basic leg and arm movement for swimming is taught in this level, as well as how to safely enter and exit the water.
Level 2
This class is meant to teach basic swimming and safety skills. Swimmers will practice swimming on their fronts and backs, and learn to float and roll over while swimming, along with other basic swimming and safety skills.
Level 3
This class is meant to introduce intermediate swimming skills. Swimmers will work on and improve on basic swimming skills while learning how to push off from the wall and glide, float, and roll over from front to back and vice versa. Swimmers will be introduced to deeper water with the help of the instructor and safety equipment.
Youth: Group Swim Lessons
Ages: 5 years - 12 years
All participants are tested and placed in to classes based on the their skill level. Instructors will utilize a variety of teaching techniques to ensure progression through the program. Participants will receive weekly activity sheets to reinforce the lessons taught during class.
Level 1
This class is the beginning level for youth age swimmers. This class focuses on basic swimming and safety skills, such as bobbing, kicking, and floating with assistance.
Level 2
This class is for intermediate swimmers who have some comfort in the water. This class adds on to what swimmers learned or what they knew previously, and new skills are added such as glides, floats without assistance, and treading water.
Level 3
This class is meant to prepare swimmers for more advanced swimming techniques. Swimmers will practice swimming longer distances, learn side-breathing, and swim more independently. To be in this level, swimmers must be able to float and tread for at least 15 seconds, swim at least five body lengths on their front and back, and demonstrate basic breath control.
Level 4
This class is meant for advanced youth swimmers. Swimmers will work on endurance, learn the breaststroke and butterfly stroke, and learn flip turns and open turns. To be in this level, swimmers must be able to swim at least 15 yards on their front and back, tread water for one minute, demonstrate side breathing, and perform flutter kick, scissor kick, and breaststroke kick.
Level 5
This class is for our highest level youth swimmers. Swimmers will work on endurance and stroke technique for all strokes, as well as flip turns for every stroke. To be in this level, swimmers must be able to swim at least 25 yards of front stroke and 15 yards of all other strokes with proper technique.
Teen and Adult: Group Swim Lessons
Ages: 13+ Years
This class is designed for teens and adults who are at a beginning swim level or are trying to learn to swim a length of the pool. Teens and adults can let the instructor know what their goals are and the instructor will plan their lesson accordingly.
Teen/adult Beginner Classes
This class is meant for teens and adults who are looking to try an introductory course to swimming. The class teaches the very basics and works on getting all swimmers comfortable in the water. Instructors will teach the class both as a group and individually to ensure each swimmer gets what they want out of the class.
Intermediate Adult Classes: 18+ years
This class is meant for teens and adults who have some experience in the water and know the basics of swimming. Instructors will teach whatever each swimmer wants to learn, with a focus on stroke technique, comfortability in the water, and endurance.
Private Swim Instruction
Ages: 3+ years
This class is meant for swimmers to get one on one attention from an instructor. Swimmers get a more personalized experience and will be taught whatever it is they wish to learn in the water. Additional participants can be added for $100 per person.
Competitive Prep Swim TeamS Now Available Through Plymouth-Canton Cruisers
Plymouth-Canton Cruisers (PCC) and Summit Aquatics are excited to offer two new swimming programs at the Summit:
• The Mini-Cruisers Program (elementary school/ages 6-10) to develop racing strokes for athletes wanting to go further than swim lessons and potentially transition to PCC’s USA Swimming Competitive team.
• The Competitive Development Program (middle & high school/ages 11-17) offers classes that develop and improve racing strokes for those preparing for their middle school or high school teams and PCC’s USA Swimming Competitive team

Inclement Weather Policy
If the Plymouth/Canton School District closes due to inclement weather during the school year (typically due to winter weather conditions), all Leisure Services Department programs/classes held prior to 4:00 p.m. will be canceled. For Leisure Services programs/classes that begin after 4:00 p.m. a determination to cancel will be made no later than 2:00 p.m. that day.
